What is Deseret Power?
Deseret Power operates as a regional generation and transmission cooperative, dedicated to fulfilling the power requirements of its six member retail systems. The cooperative also engages in selling surplus power to municipalities, power marketers, and other wholesale electric systems across five states. Initially holding a 25.1% stake in the Hunter II power plant, Deseret has evolved into a comprehensive integrated power producer within Utah. The company manages 223 miles of transmission lines and possesses 550 MW of generation capacity. Its flagship generating resource, the Bonanza Power Plant, is recognized among the cleanest coal-fired plants in the U.S. and achieved top availability rankings in 2001 and 2002. As a cooperative, Deseret is collectively owned by its six member systems: Bridger Valley Electric, Dixie Escalante, Flowell Electric, Garkane Energy, Moon Lake Electric, and Mt. Wheeler Power. This cooperative structure, coupled with its vertical integration, strategically positions Deseret to offer competitive and stable power rates to its member/owners, partners, and a diverse customer base.
