ProChaete was set up in 2013 to produce, market and develop raw materials that make up the oil and protein elements of aquatic animal feeds, from polychaete derived products. The company is dedicated to developing alternative feed ingredients and commercializing innovative feed formulations without (or with very limited amounts of) fish ingredients... . ProChaete's shareholders are Seafresh Group, Seafresh Industry Public Company Ltd, Valemare Ltd. The company focuses on using ingredients from farmed polycheate worms. The company's polychaetes (Nereis Virens) are cultivated in ponds on the company's farm, and processed in the company's adjacent plant. Based on its origin and connection to the shrimp farming industry ProChaete has developed some unique maturation feeds for Crustaceans. The company has developed diets for rainbow trout, seabass & seabream, and shrimp. In 2013, the company conducted trials using zero-fishmeal feed on rainbow trout, in association with a global aquafeed producer - the results have been very positive in terms of fish growth, health and taste. The company believes that improved taste will be a HUGE selling-point! The company has now reached an agreement with this feed producer, plus a major rainbow trout farming company, to take forward the development of commercial trout feeds in 2014. In tandem with this, one of the world's biggest producers of farmed seabass and seabream has been trialling ProChaete feed additives, again with very positive results in terms of fish health and flavour. We're running further trials this year. Further trials of the company's new extruded shrimp feeds (made in the UK) are due to start in Q1 2014. ProChaete is also working with the University of Swansea (Wales) on testing inclusion of microalgal products in feeds, in combination with polychaete ingredients.
