Northwest Ohio Development Agency

Founded in 1998, Northwest Ohio Development Agency (NODA) is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) certified by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. CDFIs are community-based financial organizations that seek to expand financial opportunities for underserved populations. Funding for NODA's creation came from a settlement received by... Toledo Fair Housing Center, an agency dedicated to combating housing discrimination. The settlement funds were the result of cases filed against insurance companies for discriminatory practices that prevented low-income and minority neighborhoods from obtaining homeowners insurance. Toledo Fair Housing Center founded NODA as a means to disburse the settlement funds back into the communities who experienced discrimination, and restore access to homeowners insurance. NODA is a private, nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization that is recognized as a HUD-approved counseling agency. Funding to support NODA's programs and services comes from a variety of sources, including grants from HUD, the City of Toledo, U.S. Department of the Treasury, Ohio Development Services Agency, and Ohio CDC Association. Generous contributions are also received from individuals as well as organizations, including Westfield Insurance. NODA strives to provide the resources that empower people to improve their financial situation and reach their goals. We offer a variety of services, including both financial education and support, to assist people on their path to long-term financial stability. Our neighborhoods have struggled with disinvestment for years which has been exacerbated by the recent foreclosure crisis, and will continue to face financial challenges.
