Kidney & Hypertension Associates is a physician group that specializes in the treatment of patients with kidney diseases, hypertension, diabetes and stone disease. Kidney and Hypertension Associates was formed by Dr. David Powers who started a parttime nephrology practice on the Northshore in 1998 in conjunction with LSU Health Sciences Center in N... ew Orleans where he was a professor. Initially, it was just the one physician and the late "Miss Margaret", his medical assistant, who started seeing patients in a rented office (it really was a warehouse!) in Hammond and a sublet space in Covington. Dr. Powers left LSU in the year 2000 to pursue a full-time private practice. Kidney & Hypertension Associates is the medical director of 5 dialysis units which are located in Hammond, Slidell, Amite, Franklinton and Lacombe and our physicians and nurse practitioners also care for patients in other dialysis units so as to provide service to all of the Northshore communities. Over the past ten years we have built 3 new dialysis centers, in Covington, Hammond and Slidell, which also house our outpatient offices. Within a few months we will start construction on a new dialysis unit in Franklinton. In addition, Kidney & Hypertension Associates physicians and practitioners maintain a large hospital practice to care for our patients as well as to provide consulting services to other physicians in hospitals throughout the Northshore. Also, we provide medical director services for acute inpatient dialysis for three of the largest Parish hospitals and two long-term care hospitals.
