International Center for Community Development - ICCD ( formally The Hispanic Learning Center) was founded in February 2001 by Mrs. Doris Goedeke, Doris died July 25, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. Although the ICCDs main focus is education, it also mobilizes the Hispanic community and serves as a... relay point for information; incorporates community outreach activities by partnering with local organizations; provides parenting classes to new parents; and has a club for teenagers that focuses on community service. While the ICCD targets individuals within our community that are primarily low-income, underserved Hispanics who do not speak English or speak limited English, our policy is to serve all individuals regardless of race, religion, ethnic group, or economic or social status. The ICCD has developed significant milestones SINCE 2001: The ICCD received its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and was incorporated by the state of North Carolina. ICCD started its first Girl Scouts Summer Camp at St. James Catholic Church in Concord and also began its Community Outreach Program. ICCD established a partnership with the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College to offer English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for adults and GED preparation for high school dropouts. The Center relocated to a larger facility, in-kind donation by the Presbytery of Charlotte, Presbyterian Church (USA), to accommodate the growing need in the community. ICCD had launched its website www.thehlc.org to assist in communicating the work being accomplished. This proved to be an invaluable resource for local schools and area students to find tutoring services and also to locate service-learning volunteer opportunities.
