Began on Vancouver Island, BC, in 1990, as a full line pet product distributor servicing Western Canada. As a result of steady growth, in 1992 the company moved to larger facilities in Nanaimo, BC. In 1995, anticipating a test for echo, the company realised it could provide faster, more effective service by positioning itself in a centralized location with Western Canada, and as a result moved to Calgary, AB. In 2001 Cichlid expanded again and moved to a new warehouse facility with four times the space, this was followed in 2006 with another expansion of warehouse space to the current location. These expansions have allowed Cichlid to become a more service friendly operation. The company now offers retail customers the ability to visit, by appointment, during operation hours.
