Every year, the company plant seedlings, also known as baby trees. The seedlings typically stand no more than 12 inches. A Christmas tree only grows about 12 inches per year. Therefore, it takes seven to eight years for a typical six-foot tree to reach its size. In addition, each and every tree must be sheared 2 to 4 times per year, fertilized 2 to 3 times per year and the grass mowed across the company's 50-acre farm from March to October.
