About Australian Breastfeeding Association

The Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) is a voluntary organisation founded by six mothers in 1964 as the Nursing Mothers' Association (NMAA). It changed its name in 2001. The ABA encourages and support mothers who would like to breastfeed their babies, while creating in the community an awareness of the importance of human milk. Most of ABA's work is carried out by trained volunteers over the 'phone, online and in the community. Mothers who have breastfed their own children complete their Certificate IV in Breastfeeding Education or equivalent through the Association and then volunteer to assist other mothers. Many services are available free of charge and mothers pay a small membership fee to access the full range of services. The Association is supported by health authorities and specialists in infant and child health and nutrition, including a panel of distinguished honorary advisers. ABA is recognised internationally as a source of accurate information about breastfeeding mRead more
