2SM is one of the best known stations in Australia having hosted some of Australia's greatest names in radio over the last 20 years. Originally owned by the Catholic Church and appropriately named the Family Station 2SM didn't really set the world on fire in the early days but their fortunes changed in 1963 when they launched Australia's first team... of jocks known as The Good Guys. 2SM rode to success on a wave of Beatlemania in 1964 and in less than 18 months of the Beatles flying out of town, 2SM's Good Guys were disbanded for a more mature approach which they called King Radio. In 1967 2SM eagerly became involved in the brave new world of talk-back radio which premiered in Australia hosted by former Good Guy Mike Walsh being the first to have a talk back show. "2SM's - Two Way Radio" as it was known aired throughout 1967 and most of 1968. In 1968 a new team of Good Guys was formed and during 1969 2SM was the leader with the youth market. The 70's is without doubt the decade that 2SM became one of this country's best known and most promotionally active and innovative radio stations. 2SM's new More Music style was later copied by many other stations. This was the most exciting time in Australian radio since the inception of Top 40 and 2SM influenced all major markets. Apart from a unique sound , special programming features and incredible promotional ideas were the hallmark of 2SM. Most people remember the day Macca kidded the audience that there was a jumbo under the Bridge and who could forget the mother of all rock radio promotions Rocktober in 1974. After a stunning run in the '70's 2SM moved to prestigious North Sydney with simply the best on-air view in Sydney.
